Continuous Dose Rate Monitoring

In 2007 a radiation monitoring station in Kordin started to supply data to the European Radiological Data Exchange Platform (EURDEP ) and to the Civil Protection Department. This data is uploaded twice a day to the mentioned entities. There are plans for the installation of a second station in Gozo.

Air Particulates

In 2008 a high volume sampler was installed at MEPA premises at Kordin. This is used to capture the total air particulates using chlorinated vinyl polychloride filter. These filter papers are taken for gamma spectroscopy analysis in an accredited laboratory.

Soil and Surface Waters Sampling

The sampling of soil is done once per year and five areas for soil sampling are selected. These are sent for gamma spectroscopy analysis.

The collection of surface water involves coordination with the Civil Protection Department. These samples are taken from three sampling points: two in Malta and one in Gozo.  These are then analysed for the presence of radioactive particles using gamma spectroscopy analysis.
